Old School

I'm really considering buying a Polaroid-type camera. Since Polaroid models seem to have gone obsolete (apparently Lady Gaga's collaborating with them on a new one?), it looks like other manufacturers, such as Fujifilm, are trying to release their own - which I really don't mind!.. This model has a playful yet sturdy look to it. There's something about white cameras...

I used to own the iZone Polaroid camera back in primary school, which now that I look at it, was a bit of a waste as the photos were oh so tiny. and a lot of the photos never developed well, but I'm missing the nostalgia Polaroids bring to photos. The fact that instead of clicking away carelessly with digital cameras, you have to be a bit more selective at what you want the precious film to immortalize. Gives each photo you take a little bit more meaning.

50s Fever

Okay, so ever since Louis Vuitton's FW10/11 campaign, there seems to be a major surge in all things 1950s. Don't get me wrong, it's absolutely beautiful seeing the editorial spreads in the glossy pages of Vogue, but in reality, are normal people going to be wearing these swing skirts with bustiers around town? Actually, I should rephrase it as, "How will people or retailers deliver this look to the masses?" It's not my personal taste, nor do I have the physique, to be wearing high-waisted pencil skirts with dainty blouses and embroidered cardigans; so I'm Interested to know what people's thoughts are on this trend...

All Hail CC

Christine Centenera is killing it on the fashion forefront. Also known as Harper's Bazaar Australia's Fashion Ed, Stylist for practically all RAFW collections, Josh Goot's girlfriend and not to mention, Stylist for Lara Bingle (when she could afford her); etc.

She's always been a favourite of  mine - her style is effortlessly cool and always incorporates a good mix of Aussie labels with the big guns into her outfits.

See her feature on Jak & Jil.

You cannot hate this woman, she just oozes cool.

...And If I didn't already have balayage done, this photo would definitely convince me to do it, stat.

DIY: Bandaged Gelatos

Not a new concept (Thank you very much, Elin!), or design, but a damn good idea for making an easy DIY skirt! I've spotted a couple of black versions in stores, but they all seemed to look too flowy or not lycra enough for my liking; not to mention, black. I went into the fabric store just wanting to pick up a grey marle colour, but once I spotted the gelato-inspired shades, there was no turning back. I actually like the coloured versions more than the grey. Now all I need is an extra 5-10 degrees Celsius more to the current temp!

Loving the texture created, and this American Apparel-esque photo setting too!

Believe the Hype

Easy Peasey Lemon Squeezey: Bassike Tank, Cooper Street Pants, Tony Bianco Wedges, Beaten Leather Belt

So, I succumbed to buying another khaki piece...

I was convinced that I could ride the khaki wave with only my F21 tailored style trousers. That is, until after trying on the J Brand Houlihans at Cactus Jam, that I realised no, the  Houlihans are 'completely' different from my pair and I, in fact, needed a pair of Houlihans in my life because they fitted so perfectly and I could already imagine wearing them to death...Sadly, I decided to die a little inside instead (with $350 still intact  in my bank account) and leave the store without them.

Then come the afternoon whilst browsing in DJs, in came Cooper Street with their more affordable and equally as comfy version..  needless to say these went straight to the register and into my wardrobe!

If you're looking for a new go-to piece for your wardrobe, buy a khaki pant - 1. They match all skin tones, 2. They're an easy alternative to jeans, 3. They'll give an instant update to your outfit and 4. They pretty much go with as many things as denim.

Forecasting.. SPRING!

Ahh it's so exciting seeing all the stores and window displays slowly becoming overtaken by their new Spring collections. It's about time, I'd say! I've had enough of the Sydney blizzard (not exactly a snow blizzard, but according to Sydney Winter standards, it was indeed!) and am ecstatic for some warm weather to come through so I can finally get some colour back and wear my new Spring purchases!

I actually think I've bought everything that could equip me until the end of Summer, but of course as consumerism and my slight shopping obsession goes, I'll always find something that I'll 'need'  in my wardrobe in order to complete it (for that fleeting moment in time anyway).

Below are few of my recent purchases, which I think are, in no particular order; this year's Spring/Summer essentials (note: Sunnies, a good cozzie, neutral cotton singlets/tees, beaten up denim shorts & BF jeans are not included as they should already be staples in your wardrobe!). Another note - Don't think that these are some ground-breaking new items new to the fashion market - You can find them everywhere! They're basically what I'm going to be living in.

One: SHORTS, SHORTS, SHORTS
I've always had a soft spot for shorts, and even through Winter I hadn't stopped buying them. Keep a close look out for tailored styles, with rolled hem lines and higher waist lines, or with prints (I'm still crazy for printed pants)! Alternatively, you could continue the sport chic look going with a silky, loose fitting pair. Key note for your shorts - Keep them relaxed fit!

Two: Wedged Heel Sandals
Not much to say to further support my love for these type of shoes. They've been huge this winter with ankled styles, plus your feet will be much happier and thankful in these than a pair of kitten keels! Tan's always my pick for footwear.

I'd also like to point out and withdraw my obsession with clogs. It's not even Spring yet, and they've already been butchered.

Three: White Blouse
A definite staple in your wardrobe, however, as opposed to oxford type shirts, I think I'd give the green light to more flowy blouse fabrics - a silk type with breast pockets are bang-on trend.

Four: Skinny Belts
Yes yes, you've heard it before. "All you need to do to stay on trend is to accessorize your outfit!" Make it a belt - knotted. Do it when you're cinching in your waist, belting your cardi, belting your man-style trousers and shorts. Done and done, polished.

I really like how fashion is actually moving away from the whole trend concept, or maybe it's me getting older and becoming more and more repulsed by Supre each day. I'm finding that pieces in my wardrobe are becoming a lot more timeless and adaptable, where all that's really required for me to more-or-less keep up with what's in style is to just update the outfit with a new feature or way of wearing something, cue this season - skinny belt and a pastel nail polish shade!

Sneaky Trip to Mexico.

So I haven't exactly been keeping up to date with the blog over the holidays, but since it's back to uni, I'm sure I'll be back to posting up daily in no time.

I've just returned from spending a week in Melbourne, and it's been pretty amazing. I never usually took much notice or interest in the city, other than for its shopping, but this trip opened my eyes to a another world of food, fashion, nightlife and architecture. What Sydney lacks in aesthetics and culture, somewhat gets consumed by Melbourne. Unless of course it's Summer, than Sydney is in a class of its own.
